Course Title and Number:Physical Education, Grades 9-12 Academic Year: 2014-1015 Class Meets: Designated block/Every other day Instructor: Ms. Kenady E-mail and Phone:kkenady@morrisonschools.org or 815-772-2064 Materials: Students will need school appropriate athletic attire: - Shoes/sneakers, shorts (length should meet the tips of your fingers when hands are by your side), sweat pants/wind pants - NO heels, platforms, boots, etc. or short shorts Course Overview: The physical education curriculum of Morrison High School has been designed to help students recognize the importance of regular physical activity. All students are given the opportunity to select activities offered. Students are encouraged to select a variety of activities that include fitness, individual and team activities. Course Objectives: - To progressively increase student cardiovascular fitness levels by completing specific warm-up tasks indoors and outside - To increase student strength by doing specific weight bearing exercises during fitness activities - To refine motor skills in various areas such as throwing, catching, dodging, etc. - To participate in individual and team activities and play by the rules in a cooperative manner Course Requirements: - In order to fulfill state and local requirements, all students in Morrison High School District must participate in and pass two years of physical education. - All clothing must all for safe participating in all activities - Students are expected to remove all jewelry except medic alert tags - Student athletes get no special privileges and are expected to participate in all class activities. Students who choose not to participate in selected activities must walk - Students with special needs will be adapted into our program as best as we can accommodate them Grading and Assessment: Standard school grading scale applies: A= 90-100 B= 80-89 C= 70-79 D= 60-69 F= 59 or below No make ups allowed unless authorized by the instructor Course Policies/Expectations: - Medicals will be handled on an individual basis. A note from a doctor is required to be excused from class for an extended period of time. STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING THE NOTE TO THE COOPERATING TEACHER! - Each student is responsible for their belongings - Discipline issues may be handled immediately by the teacher through appropriate physical consequences (push-ups, crunches, etc.) Emergency Procedures: The teachers are equipped with handheld radios for emergency situations and communication with the office.
